Impressions Isla Mujeres by Hyatt
about.
Located at the southern tip of Isla Mujeres, where the sun first touches Mexico, this architectural intervention by Arquitectura Mixta is a tribute to the Caribbean’s unique geography. Our four bio-parametric structures—Ola, DJ Booth, Wet Bar, and The Temple—create a harmonious dialogue with the horizon through organic undulations, transparencies, and the constant interplay of light and wind.
Standing as the heart of the project, The Temple is a 12-meter-high sanctuary inspired by the Cyphoma gibbosum (Mexican Sea Slug). Its majestic catenary arches support intricate layers of woven bamboo, sheltering a wind-activated mobile system that transforms the Caribbean breeze into harmonic sounds.
This project marks a global milestone in sustainable engineering. For the first time in history, complex computational processes—usually reserved for concrete and steel—were applied to bio-construction. By developing custom Python algorithms and utilizing genetic optimization (Galapagos), we ensured that every curve and support point achieves maximum structural efficiency. This fusion of ancestral materials and cutting-edge technology makes these structures a unique reference for regenerative architecture worldwide.
